The post is within the new "Interface-Geochemistry" team of Prof. Liane G. Benning. One aspect of the new interdisciplinary group will focus on the quantification of mineral-microbe interface processes. We thus invite applications for a position as
Research Associate (PostDoc) (m/f) in Geo-Bio-Interfaces
Reference No. 59/35/15 G

Tasks:

  * conduct original research on microbe-mineral interface reactions with focus on rock weathering

  * quantify molecular-scale interface reactions with special applications to nutrient and carbon cycling

  * design and perform complex biotic-mineral laboratory experiments

  * investigate similar geo-bio interface reactions in Arctic soils

  * collect, process and interpret complex high-resolution imaging and micro-spectroscopic data

  * integrate experimental, theoretical and modeling results

  * write scientific publications for international refereed journals and present research results at scientific meetings

  * contribute to writing proposals for third party funding opportunities

Qualifications:

  * Master's degree (or equivalent) in geosciences with focus on geochemistry, mineralogy or geobiology

  * PhD degree in one of the above mentioned disciplines

  * demonstrated ability in quantifying field and laboratory based biogeochemical processes related to nutrient and carbon cycling

  * familiarity with using a broad range of analytical techniques (e.g., biomarkers, microscopy or micro-spectroscopy, synchrotron experience would be a bonus)

  * documentable expertise in laboratory experimental design and in molecular-scale sample characterization (data collection, processing and interpretation)

  * demonstrated expertise in working at the interface of geochemistry, microbiology and mineralogy
