Dear Cryolist members,
We would like to draw your attention to two Postdoc opportunities in ice sheet modeling, as part of the UK/US International Thwaites Glacier Collaboration.

The project PROPHET (PROcesses, drivers, Prediction: modeling the History and Evolution of Thwaites) aims at improving model projections of Thwaites Glacier to reduce the uncertainty in the projection of the glacier's behavior and subsequent contribution to sea-level rise in the future. This work will consists of using three independent ice sheet models (ISSM, Úa and STREAMICE) to investigate basal conditions, assess potential drivers of change, and perform ice/ocean coupled projections over the next centuries. This project is lead by Hilmar Gudmundsson (Northumbria Univ.), Mathieu Morlighem (UCI) and Daniel Goldberg (Univ. of Edinburgh), in collaboration with Indrani Das (Columbia), Brent Minchew (MIT), Noel Gourmelen (Univ. of Edinburgh) and Jérémie Mouginot (IGE).
- The first postdoc opportunity is at UCI (Irvine, California) under the supervision of Mathieu Morlighem (http://sites.uci.edu/morlighem/ <http://sites.uci.edu/morlighem/>) and will rely on the Ice Sheet System Model (http://issm.jpl.nasa.gov <http://issm.jpl.nasa.gov/>) developed jointly with the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The term of appointment at UCI is initially for 1 year with an extension to up to 5 years, subject to satisfactory progress and available funding UCI. Start date: Fall 2018 or soon thereafter. Further information about the post, and how and to apply, can be found at: https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/apply/JPF04871 <https://recruit.ap.uci.edu/apply/JPF04871>

- The second postdoc opportunity is at Northumbria University, Newcastle, UK, under the supervision of Hilmar Gudmundsson and primarily involves development and use of the ice-flow model Úa (https://sway.com/A3ihHbhXG59GwsYf <https://sway.com/A3ihHbhXG59GwsYf>). The term of appointment at Northumbria University is for four years, starting 1st Dec, 2018. Further information about the post, and on how to apply, can be found at https://work4.northumbria.ac.uk/work-for-us/details/?roleId=720 <https://work4.northumbria.ac.uk/work-for-us/details/?roleId=720>
Applications are invited from creative self-motivated candidates with a deep interest in Earth systems modeling/science. The exact requirements for each post are listed on the respective web pages, but both applicants must have completed a PhD in glaciology, applied mathematics, geophysics, or closely related areas by the start of the project. Applicants must also be interested in working in a collaborative environment on computationally intensive projects.
Do not hesitate to contact us if you have any question
All the best,
Hilmar and Mathieu for PROPHET
